Both the President and General Secretary of the SDLTA were replaced, Kay Rollings inducting the 2017 President John McGleave, and Mick Mason passing over to Mark Busby all those duties of which very few others know anything at all! Both John and Mark are members of, and heavily involved with, the Moorgate Club, a great convenience for both of them in their new roles. It is also believed Mick Mason is the longest serving GS since WWII and the third longest ever – the dates on the honours list need amending!
The awarding of the Lawn Tennis Association Meritorious Service Award to Bob Lamb was revealed by the new President and the full citation will be reported here very soon; he will collect it in a ceremony at the LTA, Roehampton, in May. Bob is retiring from his various tennis services to the Association stretching back over four decades, and recently completed his three-year stint as President of the Yorkshire LTA, passing the baton to Chris Day, Chairman of the Barnsley Club who was also present and made his maiden speech. What an honour for our Association.
These are heady times for the S&D. The Winter League has been taken under its wing, a new website and electronic match results entry will be up and running by April c/o Jessica Redfearn, a new League Secretary in Kevin Beaton, a new (young!) Junior Tournament organiser in Sue Pugh, with others, and a much improved sponsorship deal with Slazenger/Dunlop. Have I missed anything?
